Vyommitra is a semi-humanoid robot with a robotic torso and head, equipped with two functional arms. Her legs, however, do not function, and she is designed to float in microgravity. Her purpose is to interact with astronauts and the Gaganyaan spacecraft during the mission.
The Gaganyaan project aims to showcase India’s capacity for human spaceflight. It envisions launching a crew of three members into orbit at an altitude of 400 km for a mission lasting three days and safely returning them to Earth by landing in the waters of the Indian Ocean.
The data collected by Vyommitra will be instrumental in enhancing the design of the Gaganyaan spacecraft and formulating procedures for upcoming manned space missions. Vyommitra’s mission marks a notable advancement in India’s space program and contributes to the groundwork for future manned space exploration.
